Catawba Valley Community College’s Accounting and Business Administration faculty are incorporating a study of McDonald’s Corporation into their courses this semester.  Students recently visited McDonald’s on Springs Road in Hickory as part of their examination.

Students learned about the profit and loss statement of a typical franchise in our area. Brandon Smith, Director of Operations, Joy Laboy, Area Supervisor, and Bradley Edggers, Local Marketing Director, spoke to the students about the McDonald’s business model from both the corporate and franchise levels. Students gained a new appreciation for McDonald’s as a company and were able to apply topics discussed in class to a real-world company.

Students are also studying nonfinancial aspects of the company, viewing several corporate documentaries and attending a “McDonald’s Hot Coffee” lecture by CVCC business faculty and attorney Jeff Penley. The study of McDonald’s Corporation will conclude with a viewing of the film “The Founder” later this semester.
