Discovery High students win electric vehicle championship with ‘common sense’ approach

Simplicity and some straight-up math helped the Discovery High team of Cooper Stephens and Justin Toney win the recent North Carolina Science Olympiad state championship in the electric vehicle competition.

The event was held at North Carolina State University with Stephens and Toney beating out 114 other teams for their gold medals.

“We were the last team to go, so a bunch of the event supervisors were impressed with our run, and I figured we did good but didn’t know we won,” sophomore Stephens said.
