New Apple investment in Catawba County could eventually push spending there to $5B

Apple Inc. wants to spend another $1 billion on its complex of buildings in Maiden that houses servers for the iCloud. That would bring the tech giant’s total investment in Catawba County to close to $4 billion.

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday night to extend its program of incentives to cover the latest investment by the Cupertino, Calif., company.

The commissioners also asked Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to consider adding office buildings and other different types of investment to the sprawling, 700-acre site.
