Apprenticeship Catawba bridges gap for skilled workers

Erick Rivera was all smiles while he talked about his future during the Apprenticeship Catawba 2017 graduation and signing ceremony last month.

“They need engineers because these companies all have robots and not many people are getting into engineering programs,” Rivera said.

The Newton-Conover High School senior was one of several local students who were chosen to be part of Apprenticeship Catawba’s newest cohort. The program is part of a growing trend across the country to help fill the need for skilled workers in manufacturing.
