The CVCC Foundation, Inc., recently announced a $50,000 gift pledge from James Goewey, franchise operator of Chick-fil-A at South Hickory.

Fulfilled over five years, Goewey’s pledge will be used by CVCC’s School of Business, Industry & Technology to award an annual $1,000 scholarship and create a long-term scholarship endowment. The gift will also underwrite the cost of educational conferences for student entrepreneurs, including the college’s annual Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour.

“This is a gift of business expertise as well as funds,” said Gary Muller, Dean of the School of Business, Industry & Technology. “James Goewey has become an integral partner in our SkillsUSA program where students learn about the free enterprise system and match their job skills against peers at the state and national levels. With his support, CVCC has won four national championships in entrepreneurship. This most recent pledge will help ensure that our students get the best guidance on starting and sustaining a business.”

“We are extremely excited about this grant and the opportunities it will provide those in our community,” said Goewey. “I believe it is important to support colleges like CVCC, as they enable students to succeed in business and encourage other entrepreneurs to launch their own businesses.”

Over the past four years, Goewey has developed a strong relationship with CVCC’s School of Business, Industry & Technology by giving behind-the-scenes tours to students in accounting, investing in CVCC’s Student’s With Attainable Goals Strategy, mentoring business and entrepreneurship students, and supporting CVCC’s SkillsUSA local chapter as they prepare for local and national competition.
