The question has to be asked: How low can it go?
Local unemployment rates took a dive in 97 of state’s 100 counties in April, but once again the drop was larger in Caldwell County than in most others, sending the unemployment rate to 4.0 percent, down 0.6 percentage points in March, the N.C. Labor and Economic Analysis Division reported.
Only 19 counties had a larger drop than Caldwell, which moved the county farther up the listing of the best unemployment rates in the state – tied for 26th best.
The report pleasantly surprised Caldwell County Economic Development Commission Executive Director Deborah Murray in at least one respect.
