Notable Neighbor: Instructor sparks growth in welding at college

James George simply wanted to make a go-kart when he enrolled in Mark Sigmon’s welding class at Bandys High School his senior year.

Then he went to college to be a history teacher.

“That lasted a semester, and then I figured out (welding) was my true calling. So, I came back,” George said.

He enrolled in the welding program at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) and went on to start as a full-time instructor at the school in February of 2017.
