Summer for most children is filled with sunshine, playing outside and ice-cream breaks, but for one group of kids it involves hand-made rockets, magnetic levitation and solar-powered cars.

The Burke Engineering Camp, which recently hosted its elementary-level students for a week, recently finished the week-long camp for middle schoolers at Western Piedmont Community College.

“There was a focus (last) week with a theme of green energy,” said Christie McMahon, principal at W.A. Young Elementary, who helps to organize the camp.
