Work starts on upscale business park

Work to transform 270 acres of pasture land between Startown and Robinwood roads into a high-tech business park began this week.

Workers for Neill Grading & Construction Co. began demolishing houses, barns and other structures on Wednesday in preparation for landscaping and the construction of an entrance road, Hickory Public Services Director Kevin Greer said.

Catawba County Economic Development Corporation President Scott Millar said the acres of pasture land, now populated with barns and silos, will one day be the site for businesses like data centers and pharmaceutical companies.
